Registered Phenomena Code: 610
Object Class: Beta-Yellow
Hazard Types: Organic Hazard, Sentient Hazard
Containment Protocols: The bunker in which RPC-610 is located has a main entranceway composed of 8cm of iron, reinforced with steel at critical points. The door is secured with a tandem lock system, requiring two Level 4 personnel to be on-site in order to unlock the door.
RPC-610 is to have no less than 14 onsite guards patrolling the perimeter. On-site security is to establish a 2 kilometers "Death Zone" perimeter around RPC-610. Under no circumstances are security personnel to enter the 50m “Contaminated Zone” around RPC-610. On-site personnel is to monitor this zone for further expansion of RPC-610-1 infestation or any other changes and report it to the nearby Site-002.
Authority geostationary orbital satellite EITS-016 equipped with DEI-TY sensors are to monitor a 20 kilometers radius from RPC-610 for potential intruders. In the case of intrusion, 2 UCAV Reapers may be deployed 2 minutes after initial intrusion from the nearby Nellis AFB. Special authority has been bestowed upon Colonel Anderson to detonate the on-site nuclear warhead in the case of a Category 5 breach.
During exploration, A team consisting of 5 members are to be equipped with 500-lumen headlights with at least 12 hours of battery life.
During exploration, A team consisting of 5 members are to be equipped with IRNV goggles. One squad member must carry a battery pack with 6 hours of charge for the IR searchlight. All weapons issued to the exploration team must be equipped with suppressors and subsonic ammunition.
Description: RPC-610 is a bio-diverse cavern located in an underground bunker in ████, Nevada formerly used by the ██ Military to house armaments and undisclosed projects. The bunker was constructed in 18██, serving its purpose until the early 19██s, when it was abandoned. It was brought to the Authority's attention when reports starting coming in of a “black meadow” growing in the west wing of the bunker. The Authority along with the local police department initiated an online campaign to influence this as an urban myth and secured the site.
Immediately upon entering the contaminated zone, vision is limited to a radius of 20 meters. The cause of this seem to be the reeds that grow from out of RPC-610, and “absorb” light from their surroundings, though not outside of their immediate location. These reeds, identified as the same as the common reed in biology, grow in a uniform 90cm in height, with age being the only differential. The reeds seem to be significantly darker than the common reed, with greens blending into black, and purple being more common among them.
Upon acquisition of the site, the “Contaminated Zone” was spread out 20 meters around RPC-610. In ██ days, it grew further until it has reached its current state. These reeds grow far faster than any known deviation of Phragmites Australis, and have far more tensile strength, though no deviations can be seen in their anatomy.
The inside of RPC-610 is a cavern, with dimensions of 4.8 by 4.8 kilometers. The cavern's interior and all foliage inside of it are entirely black, and seem to exhibit the same light absorption properties of the reeds. This disallows any light waves from traveling far, or illuminating any large portion of RPC-610. The interior of RPC-610 is dominated by large stretches of reeds growing throughout. The cavern, while absent of luminescence, is filled with a large number of reeds. Head Researcher S████ has theorized that the plants █████ and █████ each other in order to facilitate growth.
RPC-610 is filled with organisms designated as RPC-610-1. All RPC-610-1 instances have a different biology, though all their epidermis’ are colored black. RPC-610-1 appears to have a strong aversion to light, from their tendency to avoid approaching the opened entrance of the bunker, however, while closed, knocking has been reported. It is unknown how such a large number of organisms thrive in RPC-610, estimated to be in the ███-████ range.

[DATA EXPUNGED]
Addendum RPC-610-2: On 1/15/74, 2:06 pm, the door to RPC-610 was opened from the inside. Onsite personnel were immediately alerted to this, and went to investigate. First responders were attacked from seemingly nowhere by RPC-610-1 instances hiding in the grass, covered in the same thick black substance seen in Exploration Log RPC-610-A. Though slow due to the amount of the substance layered on top of them. Bullets seemingly had no effect; being caught within the black substance and immediately covered. It was at this point that one on-site security personnel retreated to Whiskey-7’s location to warn them of this.
At the time, Whiskey-7 was measuring the flammability of the reeds with █████ flamethrowers, and was equipped for the task of repelling the RPC-610-1 threat. Although the flamethrower had no effect on the black substance or the reeds that RPC-610-1 were covering themselves in, their fear of it was enough to send them back into RPC-610 and close the entrance once more, barricading it with nearby debris. It was noted that RPC-610-A was nowhere to be seen during this re-containment, though on-site personnel marks him as the subject that first attacked.
Due to RPC-610’s entrance’s vulnerability, new containment measures are being put in place, and therefore no further testing is being allowed at this time.
