Registered Phenomena Code: 305

Object Class: Alpha-Yellow

Hazard Types: Sentient Hazard, Organic Hazard, Bio-Hazard

Containment Protocols: RPC-305 is to be kept in a high-value item storage locker equipped with a pressure sensitive alarm. Access is allowed to security clearance level 4 personnel or level 3 personnel with permission from the site director.

RPC-305-1A through 1F 1E are to be housed in a 10 by 10 meter humanoid containment unit. This unit will contain furnishings appropriate for children aged 5-10 and as well as a variety of age appropriate toys. They are to be fed three times daily on a diet appropriate to their species. Once daily 6 CSD personnel 5 junior researchers are to engage in play activities with RPC-305-1A to 1F 1E for a minimum of 3 hours. No individuals with a history of child abuse or sociopathic tendencies are to be assigned to this duty and all CSD personnel should be informed that harming RPC-305-1 will result in immediate termination. All play activities are to be watched over by two armed guards to enforce this directive.

In the event that all RPC-305-1 are no longer capable of engaging in play activities, RPC-305 must be moved to a Level A Biohazard laboratory and Procedure Wukong must be enacted within 72 hours. If successful, the new RPC-305-1 are to be housed in the same containment unit as previously. If unsuccessful, all RPC-305-1 are to be terminated and Procedure Wukong is to be repeated until successful.

All testing with RPC-305 is currently suspended. Any proposed test involving RPC-305 must be approved by the site director.

Description: RPC-305 is a wooden barrel with a height of 90cm, diameter of 56cm and capacity of 200L. Its staves and ends are made of elm wood and its 6 hoops are made of zinc. Neither of these materials is standard in mass produced barrels, and it has no manufacturer's mark from any professional cooperage. The head of the barrel has two holes through which a piece of hemp rope has been threaded. RPC-305 is empty when closed as determined by weight measurement and flexible camera scope inserted through the holes in the head.

If RPC-305 has not been opened within approximately 2 weeks of the expiration of all RPC-305-1, it will disappear from current containment and reappear in a random location likely to expose it to multiple children. This has included elementary schools, daycare centers, and homes containing >2 children between the ages of 4 to 12. Currently, there is no known way to prevent this effect or direct where it appears.

When the head of the barrel is removed through any means, a quantity of primates equal to the volume of RPC-305 will manifest within it. These primates are designated RPC-305-1. All recorded instances of primates exiting RPC-305 have belonged to either the parvorder platyrrhini (New World monkeys) or catarrhini (Old World monkeys). Although hominoids (apes) are catarrhines, no hominoid species has yet appeared.

In all activations, there are enough primates present to fill the barrel. This has ranged from ████ pygmy marmosets to █ mandrills. All primates will belong to the same species with an equal mix of sexes. If the barrel is closed and reopened, another group of primates will appear. Approximately 31% of activations will produce primates infected with a communicable disease, including but not limited to: influenza, small pox, ebola, HIV, rabies, and hepatitis.

All RPC-305-1 will be docile regardless of their species' normal behavior, and all social interactions will be similar to those of human children. They will readily respond to English and demonstrate an understanding of verbal directions equivalent to that of a child between the ages of 6 to 8. They can be taught to understand any language at the same rate as human children, but cannot replicate any of them, including sign language. All nonverbal, non-game based, intelligence tests place RPC-305-1 as normal for their species.

RPC-305-1 will engage in play activities consistent with those of human children including, but not limited to: play-acting, simple board games, sports activities, and constructive play (building blocks, legos). When given a choice they will invariably prefer playing with human children or adults over each other.

If an RPC-305-1 does not play for at least 2 hours with a human within a 36 hour time period they will begin to deteriorate. Within the first hour all hair will fall out, then over the next 2-3 hours, their skin will begin to break down, exposing the musculature beneath. Various organ systems or muscle groups begin to deteriorate next and it may take anywhere from 6 to 22 hours before the primate expires. This process greatly distresses the RPC-305-1.

The degradation may be halted by engaging in play activities with the RPC-305-1, but this can be difficult as mental degradation also occurs. At the 2 hour mark, RPC-305-1 will lose any learned abilities and forget rules to games they have previously played. After 4 hours they can no longer understand spoken language. After 8 hours (if not expired) they lose all semblance of human behavior. As the degradation appears to cause significant pain, RPC-305-1 will react violently to any stimuli at this point.

Although the degradation can be halted before the 8 hour mark, it cannot be reversed. RPC-305-1 have largely normal biological function and if a critical organ system (circulatory, respiratory, nervous) is damaged they may expire at a later time regardless of play status. However, they do appear to be immune to the diseases or health conditions that would be expected from considerable loss of skin and tissue. One RPC-305-1 survived 60 days with no epidermis and two non-functional arms with no appreciable health effects before testing was halted.

The current instance of RPC-305-1 are 6 5 Japanese Macaques. They will respond to their alpha-numeric designations and full directions for interaction can be found in document RPC-305-A.

Addendum 1: During Test #305–154, the resulting primates were infected with [REDACTED] causing █ casualties and almost breaching containment. Researcher Simmons has been posthumously commended for her swift thinking and prevention of greater casualties. Given this ability to produce RPC 305-1 infected with anomalous diseases, and a low likelihood of new data to be gained by further testing, all testing on RPC-305 is to be suspended and containment procedures have been updated to maintain the most current, non-diseased group of primates.

Addendum 2: On ██/█/20██ a CSD assigned to play with RPC-305-1F took it hostage in an attempt to escape. The CSD was quickly terminated, but RPC-305-1F was fatally wounded. As there is sufficient research to establish that there are no harmful effects to engaging in play activities, junior researchers will now be tasked with completing play activities to prevent a similar event from occurring in the future.
