Registered Phenomena Code: RPC-214

RPC-214 at the time of recovery.

Object Class: Alpha-Yellow

Hazard Types: h-emotional.png Emotional Hazard h-mind-regression.png Mind-Regression Hazard h-sensory.png Sensory Hazard

Containment Protocols: RPC-214 is contained within a 10m x 10m x 10m containment chamber at Site-016. Research personnel are advised to stand at least 6 meters away from the object to prevent the probability of activating RPC-214. Should research personnel become a designated instance, of RPC-214-A, they must confront RPC-214 with the intent of admission of their subconscious thoughts.

Description: RPC-214 is a dark oak coffin retrieved from a closed down chapel in Llangadog, UK. It is 2 meters in height, 71.28 centimeters in width and 213.36 centimeters in length. Based on the composition of the coffin, the Authority has been unable to determine if the coffin was locally crafted in Llangadog or imported from another region. RPC-214 was the only coffin found within the old chapel.

RPC-214 will always remain inactive and closed unless approached within six meters by any human that subconsciously harbor repressed, morbid obsessions.1 The lid of the coffin will then open to reveal a rotted interior housing a large colony of maggots. There have been debate as to whether or not RPC-214 is sentient as it is capable of communication. While it is unclear in the video logs as to how the anomaly is capable of interacting with the afflicted, they will claim the source of the voice originates from the maggots.

Maggots found within RPC-214 during its active state.

By this point, the subjects will be designated as RPC-214-A. Instances of RPC-214-A will behave differently according to their interaction with RPC-214. However, a common characteristic show that the subjects will become increasingly agitated, defensive, and will avoid talking about their interaction with RPC-214 or what they had discussed. Over time, their condition will worsen, showing signs of neurological disorders in which, the subject suffers from memory loss, early onset of dementia and hallucinations. In most cases, this also leads to a lack of impulse control. A neurological scan of the subjects reveals not only mental deterioration, but decomposition present.

Should the subject expire by any means, via brain death from severe neurological damage or terminated by ASF personnel, the maggots will exit RPC-214 and proceed to swarm and devour RPC-214-A. They will then retreat into RPC-214 which will then shut its lid. There is no method of suspending or reversing the effects with one exception: should a subject confront RPC-214 and come to terms with their mental state of being, the neurological deterioration and decomposition of the brain will reverse. RPC-214 will then close its lid, with RPC-214-A reverting back to their non-anomalous state of being.
