Safety Procedures

Artefact No. 0288 remains under the custody of MI-13 Junior Investigator Yushatyr. Historical assessment indicates that neither the artefact nor its associated entity presents any substantive risk to Monarch Security operations. On the contrary, the entity has consistently contributed to the agency’s objectives for over a century.

Although formally classified as an artefact, MI0288-01 has been recognised as a serving member of Monarch Security since her acquisition in 1898. She holds an established and respected position within His Majesty’s Subjugation Office (HMSO) and the Royal Congregation of Sorcerers (RCS), and is to be afforded the courtesies expected of a senior officer.

In recognition of her long-standing service, MI0288-01 is granted the full privileges of an agency staff. These include salaries, insurance and welfare benefits, access to training and development programs, entitlement to annual leave, and the right to judicial representation through the agency’s union in the United Kingdom.

Special accommodations have been made for MI0288-01’s apparitional nature, including the provision of silver-backed mirrors and spectral-motion-sensor camera systems to make her presence visible to personnel, as well as spectral microphones for clear auditory communication. Per MI0288-01’s request, financial support is extended to her custodian, Yushatyr, to fund her education, training, and approved projects under the supervision of MI-13.

Synopsis

SophiaMirror.png
Entity Notes:
-Apparition; maintains its original human form.
-Minor discolourisation associated with tuberculosis.
-Can only be seen through mirror reflections.

As seen in Fig.11 MI0288 is an oval-shaped locket crafted from silver, features identical faces adorned with intricate gold scrolls against a backdrop of black enamel. The artefact is mainly composed of porcelain enamel, engraved and adorned in gold, pearl, and diamond. Inside the artefact is a silver mirror that displays a normally blurred reflection.

The artefact passively emits a faint field of spirituality on an 8 m diameter surrounding it, protecting subjects from auditory and transitory curses, as well as moderate malevolent influences. Participants report feeling either a sense of serenity or ease while in MI0228's area of effect.

Periodically, an apparition designated MI0288-01 appears on the reflection of the mirror (Fig.2). The entity would usually be seen standing next to the participant's reflection or sitting idly by, sometimes holding a silver utensil. The apparition manifests as a Caucasian woman in her early thirties, exhibiting pallor and marked malnourishment, characteristic of the “consumptive look” associated with incipient pulmonary tuberculosis.

The entity most commonly manifests in a European nightgown characteristic of the late 17th century. On occasion, however, she exhibits the ability to replicate the attire and personal belongings of those around her. These manifestations are illusory in nature, being an extension of MI0288’s own body rather than independent objects. Surrounding MI0288-01 are translucent ribbons of silver mist that are purported to be the residue of spirits and thaumaturgic properties the entity has absorbed throughout her two centuries of operative service.

If MI0288 is placed near a silver mirror for 4–6 minutes, entity MI0288-01 may fully materialise from the mirror’s reflection. Its image vanishes immediately if the mirror is covered, cracked, or otherwise disturbed. In other reflective surfaces, such as glass, metal, or water, MI0288-01 manifests as an indistinct silver cloud of a vaguely humanoid shape before turning into a clearer form after approximately half an hour.

MI0288-01 is capable of physically interacting with other entities within reflective surfaces. Participants can hear her voice and feel her touch through the reflection, though direct interaction with her remains impossible. If MI0288-01 attempts to inflict harm, participants experience the associated pain in their physical bodies, yet no physical wounds manifest in reality. Instead, the injuries appear solely within the reflection as illusory marks.

It is speculated that MI0288-01’s touch interfaces directly with a subject’s spiritual essence. This interaction appears to induce corresponding neural responses, producing the sensation of physical contact or pain despite the absence of actual bodily harm. While harmless to living material beings such as humans, this property is highly effective against other spiritual entities, including incorporeal anomalies and malevolent influences.
