A sketch of GRP-014 by Ranger Denis Joh

Galactic Registered Phenomena: 014
Object Class: Omega-Yellow
Hazard Types: Contact Hazard, Destabilization Hazard, Extra-Terrestrial Hazard, Teleportation Hazard, Sensory Hazard, Extra-Terrestrial Hazard
Containment Protocol: GRP-014 no longer exists within our reality, and therefore containment is impossible. If contact is re-established, a blockade of 12 GRPC Jupiter-31 ships must be imposed around GRP-014 as soon as possible. This blockade has permission to halt any encroaching vessels from contacting GRP-014 by any means they deem necessary.
Description: GRP-014-1 is an anomalous asteroid, 3.4 miles / 5.44 km at its widest, consisting of 80% iron, 5% nickel, 3% gold, and 2% platinum, taken from an automated mineral sample during GRPC Jupiter-3's touchdown. Rubidium-strontium dating of GRP-014-1’s materials places the age of the asteroid at 50,000 years old and potentially even older. The inside of GRP-014-1 has been hollowed out by unknown means, making room for GRP-014, a monolithic temple-like structure carved from the rock by unfamiliar tools. Carvings of some cosmic beast, humanoids, and nonhumanoid figures adorn the interior tunnels of GRP-014-1 and the exterior of GRP-014. Archeologists hypothesize that the carvings symbolize a ritualistic sacrifice of alien origin.
GRP-014 displays anomalous properties only when a sentient entity enters its field of effect. It's theorized this field pertains to GRP-014-1 and a 100mi / 160km radius encompassing it. Proximity to GRP-014 increased the likelihood of destabilization hazards, including removing matter from the universe, allowing humans to survive in a vacuum, and memetic-induced psychosis. The closer one gets to the source of GRP-014, the stronger these effects will manifest themselves. An eyewitness report claimed that the interior of GRP-014 was home to a haunting of incorporeal aliens. No video recordings can prove these sightings, but the odd circumstances surrounding its discovery add some legitimacy to the claim.
Discovery Logs
GRPC 2nd Lt. Rocketeer2 Allen Glen made a routine frontier sweep of the Shedir system, declination J2000 +56° 32’ 13”, Galactic Longitude 121.42°, Galactic Latitude -6.3° in the fringes of explored space at standard Galactic time [[Redacted]]. A foreign Drunkmenn Drive3 with an unusually large dark energy ripple4 trail was detected within the system, compelling GRPC 2nd Lt. Rocketeer Allen Glen to intercept the craft; however, no ship was discovered.
A NullCom Highland observation outpost 0.4 light-years away from and monitoring the Vega system, declination J2000 +38° 47’ 00”, Galactic Longitude 67.44°, Galactic Latitude 19.24°, noticed unexplainable alterations in the orbital trajectory of the star’s debris. Occurring only 4.2 light-years from the FSM5 humanity preservation flotilla Big Apple and 4.8 light-years from the USSR6 fleet Zarechny, the science team, prepped an ALOS7 instant communication transmission to the nearest GRPC Station 007.
As per protocol, GRPC Station-007 fired transmission bursts ordering a cease and desist order to nearby ships ASPS8 Zarechny and ASPS Big Apple. Listed below are their proclamations to the cease and desist order.
USSR Transmission Message
Greetings GRPC Station 007. I am Captain of the glorious ASPS Zarechny. Let me first thank you for notifying us of these anomalous activities. Your men must be exhausted, protecting mankind from the cosmos. But I can assure you; that our Soviet Republic is more than capable of handling this anomaly.
This event is within our sphere of influence. There's no need for the GRPC to waste time handling a Soviet issue. Our might only grow exponentially with time. So let us burden your torch.
We've already deployed our best cosmonauts to the Vega system. No pirate or prospector will set foot on this anomaly; we swear by it.
This is Station 007; your assistance is not necessary. Please, command your operatives to stand down. Soviet presence in the Vega System during GRPC operations will be considered hostile; this is your last warning.
FSM / NuTani Transmission Message
Greetings GRPC, this is Governor Donald Adams of the ASPS Big Apple. First, I appreciate what you're doing for us, and that's why you have my word the Free Systems of Monoceros will leave you to your work.
I, however, can't speak for our private citizens. But what I can do is offer a partnership we all want.
Hello GRPC, NuTani Representative Gary Carter speaking. I'm a busy man; I'll cut to the chase. NuTani is willing to donate a total of 100 Million NATO Dollars to the GRPC non-profit fund. In exchange, any anomalies discovered in the Vega system will be donated to NuTani for research purposes.
Station 007 appreciates but politely declines your offer. Please, do not attempt to enter the Vega system personally or through a third party until GRPC scout teams give the all-clear. Any ships in violation of this protocol will be treated as hostile.
GRPC MSgt Ranger Denis Joh and Rocketeer Sgt Vanta Ngai sortied from GRPC Station 007 at Standard Galactic Time [Redacted] to the Vega system. Issued an FTL Drunkmenn Drive, with twice the amount of Drunkmenn Microbes than in a standard-issue Jupiter-3 Rocket. The two made a distance of 13.6 Light Years in 19,272 hrs/34 min/23 sec. Upon approaching the Vega system, both GRPC rangers reported a feeling of “being watched” and “an unusual feeling of Deja Vu'' about the situation.
While looking for a spot to land, GRPC Rocketeer Vanta Ngai spotted the heat signature of a spacecraft, which had its engines still running—parked on the dark side of the asteroid. Upon approach, a visual of the vessel was made. The craft was small, with dimensions of 200ft / 60.96m wide, 240ft / 73.152m long, and 180ft / 54.864m tall. It had two cylindrical thrusters on each side, a smooth rectangular body, and sported a bright pinkish-purple coloration. The GRPC Rangers, fearing a potential pirate threat, issued a status report to the GRPC NullCom Highland observation outpost in case of the worst possible outcome.
Landing 570ft / 173.736m away, both Rangers hiked over to the craft to explore its interior. It consisted of an engine room on the top overlooking the two thrusters, a loading bay in the rear positioned between the two engines, and an enormous, lavish bedroom in the front, adorned with pseudo-Greco-roman architecture, including busts of Alexander the Great. Paraphernalia of a fictional ’90s timeline that did not undergo Sol Wars lined the walls, and a bathroom connected to the bedroom was plastered with palm tree wallpaper. Font types used were irregular, with an extraordinary effort put into aesthetics, yet were surprisingly in English.
There were no manual control systems. Instead, all operations were carried out by an unknown AI known as Windows 9500, who’d made its presence known when GRPC Rocketeer Ngai jumped onto the bed, offering if he wished the bedroom lights to be adjusted. Questioning Windows 9500 made it clear that it kept the ship operational since its captain’s departure 146 days ago. In that time, it had reportedly fixed the life support systems two times and shot at a total of 15 incoming asteroids. Upon further questioning the AI's personal favorite colors and opinions on mundane topics, Windows 9500 was diagnosed as non-sentient and non-anomalous, making any moral or lawful questions about reprogramming null.
After verbally reprogramming Windows 9500, whose protocol was changed from [follow the orders of anyone lying down in bed] to [follow orders from anyone wearing a GRPC logo], nothing else was noted as being of interest, aside from a small palm tree that was believed to have gone extinct after the extinction of all life on Earth. Both rangers took the palm tree back to the GRPC craft to determine if it was genuine or a synthetic copy.
During their examination, both Space Rangers picked up two different Mk1 Drunkmen Drive signatures emanating just 2.1 miles away from GRP-014-1. Both ships fired off short radio wave bursts declaring their allegiances. 2min 12seconds later, the S.S. Lunar Lover took aggressive actions against the S.S. Leonov, which took aggressive actions, forcing the S.S. Lunar Lover to maneuver behind GRP-014-1. As a response to the loss of direct line of sight, S.S. Leonov fired off three guided rockets in an attempt to destroy the S.S. Lunar Lover before the asteroid eclipsed it completely. All three missiles were jammed via the use of an advanced FSM jammer system, leading to an unguided and unintended hit on and around the landing site of the GRPC Jupiter-3 craft.
Vega System Two-Way Communiqué
Beware all ships; the moon's fury burns within me!
S.S. Lunar Lover, this is Sgt Vanta Ngai, Rocketeer of the GRPC. You've entered restricted space, turn your ship around, or you will be fired upon!
I don't care who you are, GRPC. You're not poaching our payday.
This is the Captain of the S.S. Leonov; we suggested you follow Sgt Vanta Ngai's request, lest the USSR will be forced to identify your ship as a pirate threat.
S.S. Leonov, your ship is not permitted in the Vega System, nor are you permitted to fire upon anyone. Turn your ship around, or you will be tagged as hostile.
This is a legitimate salvage, vodka breath. I won't be responsible for my actions if you interfere.
S.S. Lunar Lover, S.S. Leonov, don't do something you'll both regret.
Otstaliy! You're really going to die for your capitalist oppressors?
Only one dying here is you, comrade. Missiles away!
GRPC Ranger Denis Joh was struck in the back by craft shrapnel, puncturing his right lung, resulting in open tension pneumothorax. Lacking adhesive paper, Rocketeer Vanta Ngai used a plastic sandwich bag and electrical tape to patch up the back injury and relieve tension from the right lung.
At this time, the S.S. Leonov had launched a dozen of its one-man interceptors in an attempt to outflank the S.S. Lunar Lovere, making escaping from the surface impossible. GRPC Rocketeer Vanta Ngai decided to abandon the already damaged and decompressing ship to shelter in the pink craft. Making their way outside back onto the surface, Rocketeer Vanta Ngai noticed rocket impact sites had created a tunnel leading inside GRP-014-1.
GRPC Rocketeer Vanta Ngai took refuge within the GRP-014-1 despite GRPC Ranger Denis Joh’s protests. In response to Ranger Denis Joh’s intense emotional distress, GRP-014 began to display its reality-bending properties resulting in the unexplainable disappearance of both the USSR and Mercenary ships. This perceived act of aggression compelled the USSR interceptors into attacking GRP-014-1 in desperation to save their lives.
Suit camera footage shows GRPC Rocketeer Ngai was also affected by the anomalous burst, being inexplicably moved deeper into the cave with no entrance or exit in sight. GRPC Rocketeer Vanta Ngai seemed dazed by this experience, believing himself to be back inside his resting quarters; he began stripping off his spacesuit, ending his suit's cam recording. One of the last things Rocketeer Vanta Ngai’s Camera feed showed was a mural of a humanoid-like entity being crushed by an ever-shrinking swarm of alien monsters led by a massive squid-like beast with 42 legs. GRPC Ranger Denis Joh regained consciousness 32min and 15sec into the asteroid bombardment, in which he found a trail of GRPC Rocketeer Vanta Ngai’s gear leading deeper into GRP-014-1.
Following the course, GRPC Ranger Denis Joh came across GRPC Rocketeer Vanta Ngai standing in the nude under the entryway arch of GRP-014. From what little footage was compiled, the exterior walls of GRP-014 were adorned with glyphs depicting and encouraging a wide range of species to enter this room, symbolizing it as an oven. Ashes that arose from the oven exited an enormous circle, accumulating into a smaller circle. Video recordings of the interior showed a dark room full of unusual dust particles suspended in zero gravity. Further video recordings showed GRPC Ranger Denis Joh ranting at GRPC Rocketeer Vanta Ngai before pulling out his standard-issue Rocket Gun, blasting Ngai in the upper right abdomen, and propelling him back into GRP-014.
Body camera video recordings showed that Rocketeer Vanta Ngai got up and walked deeper into GRP-014 after being shot, sitting down on a pile of rocks, and rocking back and forth, mimicking the behavior of a rocking chair. Inexplicably, shortly before sitting down inside GRP-014, Vanta Ngai turned to stone before rapidly disintegrating into dust. Ranger Denis Joh tried to investigate, unknowingly passing the threshold of GRP-014, giving him a severe memetic attack. It’s strongly believed that Ranger Denis Joh’s perception of reality had been heavily compromised at this point due to the effects of GRP-014. Ranger Joh began ranting about figures, mostly non-humanoids, who were either sitting in the corners like Rocketeer Vanta Ngai or clawing at the walls in pain.
MSgt Ranger Joh / Sgt Pilot Ngai Radio Recording #002
Ngai, listen to me. The second one of those ships kicks the bucket; we're going to get bombarded by a massive debris field. So use the pink ship to escape.
Denis, for the last time. A GRPC Ranger never leaves one of his own behind, and that's final!
Besides, we're not going to the Pink Ship.
What?
You heard me. You and I are going to ride this thing out inside the asteroid.
No, no, you need to get out of here! You need to get home!
We will, as soon as these ships take care of one other.
These bastards. It's because of them we're going to die on this worthless rock.
Just close your eyes, breath, and think happy thoughts.
I can almost see it now, my bedsheets aboard Station-007
The only thing that could make me feel safe right now is if these goddam ships fucked off.
Ha, ever the optimist-
Pvt. Moskal / S.S. Leonov Combat Communications #064 (English Translation)
This is the S.S. Leonov. All remaining fighters, report in your current condition.
This is Officer Yuriy Pyotr reporting in all systems green.
Pvt Michal Brozek reporting in, engines are green, right gun gone.
Pvt Vera Taisia reporting in, all systems green, low on fuel.
Pvt Egor Moskal reporting in, all systems green.
So, only four of us left. How should we proceed, S.S. Leonov?
S.S. Leonov do you copy?
Officer Pyotr, the S.S. Leonov is gone.
It's been destroyed!
No, it's just gone.
Impossible.
Wait, do you guys hear that?
Hear what?
The enemy ship's radio chatter is gone.
So is the GRPC's.
I want all ships to open fire on the anomaly!
You don't think.
Officer, our guns won't have an effect.
I don't care. Target the anomaly for termination. We are humanity's first and possibly last line of defense against this anomalous threat. Now open fire!
MSgt Ranger Joh / Sgt Pilot Ngai Radio Recording #003
Hello? Denis? Dammit, another nightmares.
Remember what the doctor told you, Ngai; think happy thoughts. Did I get into bed with my vac suit on? Well, no wonder I had a bad dream.
Warning, removal of Vacuum Suit in a vacuum.
The alarm clock is on the fritz again.
Vacuum Suit safety measures offline.
Ah, there we go. Silence.
MSgt Ranger Joh / Sgt Pilot Ngai Radio Recording #004
There you are Ngai, what in the cosmos are you doing down here?
You've lost it, Ngai; this isn't home. We're at Bootcamp. Now come on, you look like shit.
Yeah, you do. Suit, give me the vitals on Pvt Vanta Ngai.
Rocketeer Sgt Vanta Ngai is deceased. Time of death, 42min and 23sec ago.
Weird, the suit says you're a Sgt.
P.E.W. safety disengaged.
Woh, put the gun down Ngai.
Warning, you've been flagged for friendly fire, Denis Joh. Report to your superiors immediately.
Ranger Denis Joh backtracked his way to the pink Greco-roman-styled ship. Upon entering, Ranger Denis Joh demanded that Windows 9500 take off from the asteroid, immediately flashing his logo in front of the ship’s cameras multiple times. 4 minutes 16 seconds after lift-off, the pink ship was forcefully boarded by Cosmonaut interceptor forces lacking any FTL ship to return home. After a brief skirmish in the loading bay, Ranger Denis Joh was struck in the left humerus and cervical spine by a rocket round fired from a TOZ-81 Mars, damaging the body camera and ending the video recording. A brief audio recording of Ranger Denis Joh being beaten was the last thing recorded before all suit functions were permanently disabled.
Responding to the earlier transmission call regarding a potential pirate threat and a suspicious pink ship, right before losing all contact with the GRP-014-1 survey team, convinced the GRPC to dispatch a backup team to discover the fate of the survey team. 210hrs into their flight, a signal of a lone ship a light-year out and moving away from the Vega system was picked up. Believing this ship’s crew was responsible to some degree for the disappearance of the survey team. The GRPC backup squad moved in to intercept the vessel. Boarding the craft with little effort, the GRPC Rangers discovered a nearly dead Ranger, Denis Joh, suffering from a right lung infection, along with four Cosmonauts who all showed signs of extreme hypovolemia and dehydration.
All four cosmonauts were taken into custody with little resistance.
GRPC Ranger Denis Joh was brought to GRPC Station 008 for physical and mental rehabilitation, where he would stay indefinitely until complete recovery.
MSgt Ranger Joh / Sgt Pilot Ngai Radio Recording #006
Windows 9500 systems have detected a forceful boarding in the rear hanger bay.
It's just a training exercise; you've done these hundreds of times, Pvt Joh.
I am Yuriy Pyotr, Officer of the USSR. We've noticed your craft has FTL capabilities.
So, it's your fault I have to perform this training simulation!
Training simulation?
He's firing at us! Take cover behind the cargo containers.
Win 9500, activate simulation defense measures.
I'm sorry, could you please repeat your question?
Officer Pyotr, the GRPC guys completely lost it.
Keep your head down Pvt, or you'll be shot.
Officer, I have a direct line of sight.
Do it, Egor! If the worst comes to ware, we all deny responsibility together.

Overview - Taken between Cosmonaut Pvt. Egor Moskal and GRPC Interrogator █████ 164 standard Galactic hours after containment.
*Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers is playing*
Interrogator █████: Good morning Private, hope you slept well.
Record player screeches
Pvt. Egor Moskal: unintelligible mumbling
Interrogator █████: This marks your third night with no sleep.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: It's been that long?
Interrogator █████: Actually, it's been even longer.; this planet’s spin is only half of what Earth’s once was.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: unintelligible mumbling
Interrogator █████: You know who else feels like shit right now?
Pvt. Egor Moskal: You?
Interrogator █████: No, our detectives in Sierra-8, who are pulling hairs out trying to put together why you were flying in an unlogged ship with a GRPC Ranger half-dead in a cargo container light-years; away from USSR space!
Pvt. Egor Moskal: You know what our officers do to privates that crack!
Interrogator █████: Oh, I wouldn't worry about your Officer.
Sound of a button click
Recording Officer Yuriy Pyotr: I apologize to Ranger Denis Joh on behalf of the USSR and my reputation as an officer.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: You think because you got my superior officer to crack, I would too?
Interrogator █████: That's what you Space Soviets are known for—one for all and all for one.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: The Korabelnaya Respublika is a strong people, the future protectorate of humanity!
Interrogator █████: What a coincidence, so are we!
Pvt. Egor Moskal: You call this protecting humanity? I've seen the things you do here; they're inhumane.
Interrogator █████: Don't fret; it's all for the greater good. KGB taught me that one.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: Traitor!
Interrogator █████: Heard it a hundred times. Now enough about me, let's hear about your little escapades, particularly your most recent mission.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: Why should I tell you anything, you quisling!
Interrogator █████: Because if you don't, I'll let Mr. Rivers here sing you another tale about secret agent men.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: Ok, ok! We were departing from the Zarechny as ordered too by the Captain.
Interrogator █████: We know, skip ahead to when you made visual confirmation of GRP-014.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: It was right after we entered the Vega System. Our entire crew was getting these weird feelings, our officer was shouting about another Drunkmen drive malfunction, but this one felt different like my emotions were being played with intentionally.
Interrogator █████: Your Officer said it was the FSM ship that fired first, this true?
Pvt. Egor Moskal: Yes, I think so.
Interrogator █████: You're lying. FSM forces don’t have a first-strike policy.Pvt. Egor Moskal: They weren’t Free Systems pig dogs, just fifty mercenaries.
Interrogator █████: NuTani's goons?
Pvt. Egor Moskal: I believe so.
Sound of pencil on paper
Interrogator █████: You fired a missile at the surface of GRP-014-1. Why?
Pvt. Egor Moskal: It wasn’t our intention; the mercenaries had advanced jamming equipment, better than the usual stuff pirates run. I’m not a betting man, but I got a hunch it was FSM tech, only they can jam our missiles.
Interrogator █████: So that’s why you used the interceptors. We found one docked to the outside of your little pink ship.
Sound of pencil on paper
Interrogator █████: Speaking of which, who actually owns the pink ship? It's too tacky to be USSR.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: We thought it was yours!
Interrogator █████: No, definitely not one of ours.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: Then why does the AI only listen to GRPC people?
Sound of pencil on paper
Interrogator █████: I’m sure the Ranger knows. Well, you’ve been a fantastic help, Pvt. Moskal, I’ll make sure you get a good night’s rest.
Pvt. Egor Moskal: Wait, you will let me go after all of this?
Interrogator █████: Egor, we're the GRPC, not the KGB.
Addendum:
Interrogator █████ was later found dead, along with all 4 Cosmonaut captives, during a prison break.
After a micro meteor shower hit Station 008, Ranger Denis Joh’s room sustained a haul breach and was closed off from the station's ventilation system. As a result, Ranger Denis Joh expired from rapid oxygen decompression.
NullCom Highland observation outpost stationed around the Vega system reported a sudden loss in visual on the anomalous asteroid shortly after the Pink Ships' departure. The pink ships in question gave off a dark energy trail, moving more dark energy than thought possible. When cross-referenced with GRPC 2nd Lt. Rocketeer Allen Glen's Shedir system readings, they matched the Pink Ships' perfectly.
Detective Richard Hill of Sierra-8, who was en route to Station 008 to question Ranger Denis Joh, has declared this case unsolvable with no living leads and a GRP that no longer exists within our universe.
