A major problem within the SCP community was that nobody understood how the classes worked. People would think that Keter (Gamma) would be End of the WorldTM and Safe (Alpha) would pose no threat. To avoid this maybe we should have a containment class and a danger class, i.e. Gamma-3 or Gamma-Epsilon. Something that would clear up the misconception and separate us from the SCP Foundation. Or maybe this is stupid and i'm overthinking it? Let me know what you think.
I think you're just overthinking it and if the site were to do that then it would make things unnecessarily complicated and confusing.
I've been championing a color-Threat system since the start. The Class system is a rating of its ability to be contained NOT of how safe or dangerous an anomaly is.
This is based on how both homeland security and the navy rate threats, of course with some modification.
White-Safe
Green-Low
Blue-Caution
Yellow-Elevated
Orange-High
Red-Severe
Black-Extreme
I like it but the only issue is that it would require 21 different class symbols, unless you mean that it should be called Alpha-White instead of just an white alpha symbol.
Yes exactly, I mean you take an Alpha DA(Discovered Anomaly)
And it looks like:
Item #: DA-002
Object Class: Alpha
Threat Level Red- ▲
That way, you know the item IS safe to contain BUT Of Severe Danger.
There's no need to make everywhere symbol different for the color, in fact I quite like the idea that DrWalden is proposing, and as a graphic designer it shouldn't be too hard to color code the edge of the Object-Class symbols. I always took it that the symbols are meant to be the quickest way to glean information about an object during containment breaches. The faster a guard can understand the an object can be easily contained but is incredibly dangerous the better. It seems intuitive to me and would differentiate this website in a tasteful way.
I can get behind this idea. Bring it up on the discord in suggestions.
I agree with Drwalden.
A lot of people mistake Gamma for End of the World when its a lot of just hard to contain stuff with some end of the world things.
Having a threat level would make things more clear.
I’m happy my thread has created such positive discussion and I LOVE the posted pictures, you are all awesome and I’m really loving this community!
This is an extremely good idea, I've always hated the SCP designations for being too vague, it should never be ambiguous what something should be rated as, threat level and containability should not go hand in hand
Hi guys, Im the guy who made the class logos, and I've been away for a few weeks which is why I've only just seen this thread. I wont be back for another week but when I am I'll happily take the logos and modify the to the specified means.
Also could someone send me the discord link?
