Can't say I enjoyed reading this one much. The concepts on display are great and I'm not immune to the campy kino of a space hunting mission getting into far more than they could even imagine, but the actual writing lags behind the concept. Description's alright but a lot of it reads to me like absolute gobbledygook in a bad way — like, I get it, it's camp, you can't do it right without saying some impenetrable sciency shit, but it's just not effectively applied here. This kind of thing is at its best when the jargon doesn't get in the way of good structuring and buildup.
#1 complaint is the dialogue though. Lots of "as you all know…", "but that's impossible!", "what are you doing with my crew?!" kinda tropes played so straight it's just kind of dry. Maybe that's the point, but I find the logs are lacking in wit when it comes to riffing off them. Like, you read something like "but that's impossible!" and think the dialogue's just being cheeky, but then the exact series of events you expect plays out just like the trope you're thinking of. Might be someone else's jam but I didn't like it.
