There is one thing I’d need to ask, this ritual I assume, is basically a reversal on the common ritual trope, where you get something and lose something in return — getting curses and getting a cat in return. And the ritual involves the desecration of the involved religion in order to invoke some sort of evil, which I assume, is what was being done over in Libya. The malleable nature of this allows for it to be co-opt into alternate religions to produce different effects, but wouldn’t that also apply to what evil this ritual will ultimately summon? So say the Islam version of the ritual would’ve incurred a Islamic-equivlent of said Evil, no? With what’s been described in the journal I have to assume that this was successful in what it sets out to do, even if in a negligible manner. This wasn’t addressed in the article.
