Frankly — I don't think this piece has much to provide in terms of entertainment other than body/sexual horror, the latter of which I am not very fond of. Unlike RPC-990, for which its properties and physical aspect are at least partly justified as a biological necessity for survival, the appearance and properties of 904 feel written for the sake of pathos and body horror. It is nevertheless strongly implied that 904 is artificial rather than a natural creature, but this is IMO not sufficient.
I do not find the tapes to be particularly interesting. They do not reveal anything about 904 past its purpose, and instead read like repetitions of each other; I get that the point of the article is body horror/pathos, but it does not have anything else to go for itself beyond providing gruesome descriptions and abusive behaviour. Throughout the "runtime" of these tapes we learn nothing new.
It also suffers from the lack of absolutely any reprieve in its constant onslaught of grim darkness: no sense of progression, no breaks in its grimdark tone, not even the slightest progress from the Authority's part in regards to their investigation. I'll confess that this has become a pet peeve of mine in the last few months and that I am very much guilty of this same problem, but that does not mean that it should go unaddressed.
