10k tale with nothing but peaceful character interactions and slow-burn worldbuilding. This is an introductory piece for a larger series, and I had a lot of fun just writing conversation and having characters play off each other.
Grimdark suffering is enhanced by glimpsing the happy and normal times before. The latter is this tale. RCPA isn't a nice world, least of all for its superhero Protectors. Things will get worse, but this is the foundation, and it won't be all bad.
