Concerns: Might be too long and lame ass name.
your concerns are right, by the way
Connecting RPC-896 to any sources of electricity is forbidden without written permission from Head Researcher Domi.
you say this, but then
Usage of RPC-896 under non-testing circumstances is forbidden.
so can it be tested without being plugged in? or do you need permission from the head researcher to do any form of testing
Personnel possessing the name "Jeff" or any deviations of the name "Jeff" in other languages are not to come into contact with RPC-896 with the exception of Head Researcher Domi.
this seems oddly specific, and gives the article a kind of humorous tone off the bat
which isnt a bad thing mind you it just is
Testing with RPC-896 is restricted to CSD sacrificial personnel, with no research personnel allowed within the same confined space of RPC-896.
sacrificial personnel? what, is this some eldritch god that needs sacrifice? how do you sacrifice personnel? is there a procedure for that?
Sub-Level 4 is to constantly monitored for extra-dimensional openings. The termination of individuals crossing through the aforementioned openings is authorized.
this comes out of the blue, does 896 cause these? any information at all about these?
Description: RPC-896 is an arcade cabinet for Sid Meyer's Civilization V
pardon but, what's an arcade cabinet? is that the official word for an arcade game?
RPC-896 does not require any currency to operate, despite the presence of openings capable of accepting standard United States quarters.
did they test this? how?
The divergence from non-anomalous Sid Meyer's Civilization V instances primarily exists in the artificial intelligence.
"the artificial intelligence"? of what? is everything in the game actually sapient? this seems really important for a throwaway line
Attempts to dissuade the player (hereby referred to as "the subject") from continuing usage of RPC-896 will be made by the in-game character Mahatma Gandhi
so they are sapient? has the authority made any attempts to contact other characters?
Such attempts are usually verbal, but in certain instances RPC-896-1 may use a variety of physical methods to forcefully block the subject from using RPC-896. The aforementioned "physical methods" usually revolve around the manifestation of certain objects within line of sight of RPC-896. See Addendum 896.1 for examples of physical methods utilized by RPC-896.
by physical, do you mean physically in the digital word? does gandhi manifest nukes in the real world out of the screen? needs rephrasing
RPC-896 will not be tarnished by any and all of RPC-896-1's attempts at deterring any subjects from using RPC-896, despite inflicting damage to the surroundings.
replace "tarnished" with "damaged", and, does gandhi actually summon nukes out of the screen? this seems like it would warrant a higher threat classification
The iteration of Sid Meyer's Civilization V is near-identical to the May 2012 version of non-anomalous Sid Meyer's Civilization V games. However, attempting to connect to a multiplayer game will always result in failure.
perhaps just replace "the iteration of sid meyer's civilization V" to just "RPC-896" for consistency
A tracking beacon is currently attached to RPC-896 and is assumed to possess extra-dimensional capabilities. The tracking beacon is connected to the circuit of RPC-896 and cannot be activated when RPC-896 is disconnected from a power source.
holy shit what? we have extra-dimensional tracking beacons? and you can connect them to arcade games? this comes totally out of the blue, and i don't know how in the world you'd track extra dimensional disturbances in the circuitry of an arcade game to begin with.
wouldn't sticking parts inside an anomalous machine potentially damage it? doesn't that seem detrimental to the anomaly's containment? and, what the hell is an extra-dimensional tracking beacon?
Autonomous deactivation is not possible for RPC-896, and a mental status similar to that of sleep paralysis is experienced by RPC-896 during deactivation.
they can track the mental status of an arcade game? how? and if everyone inside it is sapient, wouldn't there be multiple mental statuses? is it a hive mind? is gandhi the borg queen? so many unanswered questions
Replacing components of RPC-896 with those from non-anomalous Midway classic 19" vertical monitor upright cabinets does not cause RPC-896 to lose it's anomalous properties.
did they test this? why? what situation arose where the authority had to shove used arcade parts inside an anomaly?
Discovery: RPC-896 was discovered in Singapore on 09/03/2015, where reports of a "Civ V4 arcade game" were circulated.
reports of an arcade game? what's so special about that? does singapore not usually have arcade games?
All photographs of RPC-896 were destroyed and all present civilians were amnesticed.
but it's just an arcade game, i don't see the fuss
RPC-896's full anomalous effects were revealed on 12/03/2015, when Dr. Domi attempted to use RPC-896 for recreational purposes.
so if its full capabilities were revealed after containment, why did they need to amnestize anyone? bit of a plot hole there
A device capable of recording videos in 3D form
woah, this comes out of the blue as well, 3D videos? like, time lord technology? wouldn't that warrant its own rpc designation?
i will say for the next section your gandhi dialogue impression is pretty good, so points there
but holy cow, shorten the amount of logs
The remaining segment of this document is restricted to personnel with either Level 4 Security Clearance, or Object Specific Clearance Levels 3/896, Assigned 068 Personnel, 3/378, 3/463, 3/929, or 3/955.
why is the format for all other rpcs different than the one for people assigned to 068?
The decryption of RPC-896's storage device facilitated the discovery of several interviews between RPC-896-1 and an individual referred to as "Jeff" by RPC-896-1. The affiliation of "Jeff" is believed to be with GoI-001/GT-01 (Righteous Central Protection Authority).
the rcpa is not GoI-001, there is no numbered goi format
(skipping the logs since they're fine)
The following file was granted by GoI-023/Ga-02(The Array). The origins of the file were not provided.
again, no goi number format, and maybe include a briefing on the array? they're pretty new
Full custody of RPC-896 was requested by The Array, which is to be provided either by 08/12/19 or after the mechanisms of RPC-896 are sufficiently understood and may be replicated to an adequate extent.
okay what? why? why would the authority give a possibly virulent anomaly to a group of interest?
Test L0g
why the l33t gamer speak?
On 29/03/15, an extra-dimensional opening manifested in Sub-Level 4. 10 hostile individuals equipped with equipment standard of Romeo-7 (Suited Gentlemen) emerged from the opening.
from what dimension? the fourth? fifth? which one?
On 19/12/16, the signal of RPC-896-1
the signal of it? what signal does an AI inside an arcade game send?
No incidents regarding the signal of RPC-896-1 occurred after the disconnection of RPC-896 from a power source.
again, what signal? and, did you fucking murder gandhi? it sounds like the authority willingly killed a sapient thing living inside the arcade game
In order to accelerate research into RPC-896, permission to use RPC-896 for testing was granted on 29/03/19. First tests to be conducted in April 2019.
alright that explains the bit earlier, but still doesn't explain why the authority would give a GOI an anomaly
and the next part is fine, except saying "jeff" in a serious end-article stinger really ruins the tension
overall this is a fucking behemoth of an article, it's mostly well-written, but it has a few plot holes and stingy dialogue choices, as well as a convoluted story to it
This, coupled with the subsequent decryption of RPC-896's storage device, allows allowed for RPC-896's attempts at dissuading the subject from using RPC-896 prior to Authority acquisition to be discovered.
RPC-896-1: Oh. Oh. Yes. Very much yes.
Jeff: Why so is that?
RPC-896-1 Well, I have no idea. I don't remember anything before that. By the way, did I ever mention my distaste for being unplugged? I suppose it's like sleep paralysis for me.
The last part of this has already been stated, so if you wanted something more to remove, you could remove this.
I like what you've done with this. You've expanded upon Jeff and the thing's relationship, as well as creating a pretty interesting story. I also like how dark you portrayed the array, really gives them a more sinister feel.
The article is quite long, that much is true. However, it is well written and fairly interesting.
The only real plot hole I noticed is how 896 was able to connect to the internet, I suppose that could be attributed to Civ 5's normal functions, which you mention, but I would add a small footnote or something highlighting this fact.
Aside from that, I found this article to be very well written.
Nice work.
896 didn't actually directly connect to the internet, it just spawned a robot and a USB stick.
I'll make that clearer then!
