I found the ARG to be relatively enjoyable once I got through the second layer. It's not too much of a challenge, given you know more or less how ARGs work (which I didn't when I began reading it). I do however find the puzzle segment a bit unnecessary, and counterproductive to what the final article is.

The article itself is presented with an unsurmountable problem; it has to somehow be worth it.

While the buildup works amazingly, the actual literary part is a noticeable drop in quality. The clinical tone is notably weak, descriptions are strangely worded and are hard to picture, and dialogues become a bit overexpositive, with characters acting unnaturaly and overexpositively.

Even past these weaknesses, the article isn't particularly grandiose or gripping. While the implications/connections of every property set probably went over my head, I don't feel rewarded by this knowledge. Length works to its disadvantage; each subsequent paragraph read feels a bit less interesting than the last, and I really only felt interested by the initial two property sets. The current description could've been interesting, had it been less ambiguous (or had its ambiguity played to better effect). Ditto with the 2001 set (whose red text remains wholly unjustified and unexplained). It just doesn't justify how the Authority reacts to it.

This could've been avoided, had the article chosen to rely on negative space/mystery instead of exposition. A shorter, punchier article that kept the subversion of the original myth/legend it is based on would've been my choice.

The ending dialogue is just bad. Unnecessarily expositive and revealing in the wrong places; by example, when the reason for the amount of secrecy employed is revealed it feels simply weird, given that the sole existence of the Authority (and many, many of its contained anomalies) should by itself prepare its members to face such challenges against their conception of the world, and what's necessary for its continuation.

The characters are too overtly dick-wavey, almost to the point of parody.

Overall; excelent buildup, lacking in substance and punch.
