Kinda off topic, but I always like how the UIU handled anomalies.

Carts = Confirmed Artifact
Cans = Confirmed Anomaly
Informal, but still a nice term: CanMan = Anomalous humanoid

I love the ease of use and pronounceability of these terms. They just sound better than clunky acronyms. RPC is worse than SCP because with SCP you can flow from the S to the C naturally. You cant naturally go from pronouncing the letter R to the letter P.

I'm into this. It would also make it easier to find what you're interested in just by looking at the list. If everything on the list is just "RPC-XXX", it's really hard to find what you want. If we differentiate, then you'll know by looking at the list that "SEN-XXX" is sentient, or "EXT-XXX" is extraterrestrial. We could combine that with Orgeston's idea to have the threat level right in the name, so for example you'd have "TEC-β-XXX". Personally, I think it's more stylish and more practical than "RCP-XXX" was.

I'm with the idea that we should do it the way an actual organization would do. Simply shoving every single anomaly into one huge list is kinda stupid if you think about it. These things should be categorized by type (Organic, Inorganic, Sentient, Technological, Preternatural, Extraterrestrial, Extradimentional, Ethereal, Memetic, etc). It'd make it easier to find and classify.

Also, it doesn't matter how much we try to deviate from SCP's format if we stick to the letters-numbers type of code. We should allow ourselves to be more prolific with the terms and classifications.

Wouldn't it look more authentic if a document was written like this:

[Authority Logo]
Research, Protection and Containment

Biological Research Division [Or any other]

Anomalous Object Registry [#999]
[Object Class icon and maybe a picture as well]

[Description]

Containment Protocols:

[Description of containment]

[Other usual info like Test Logs, Interviews, and so on]

I'm team both, Imo either one's better than RPX-XXX.

But maybe…think we could like, make different names for different types of anomaly? For example: DA-HMN-XXX for humanoid, and DA-EXL-XXX for extraterrestrial life and so on.

We'll have to work out some definitions tho, but look at our name, RCPA, R for Research and it comes first. We are more of a research organization than a containment one now.

Hence, specific definitions would be absolute necessary, and awesome, and looking-pro.

To further differentiate ourselves from the Foundation is imperative and I do support the idea of changing anomaly designations.

Any new designation should definitely include the word "anomaly", though DA already has unrelated connotations. I like the Research File designation. I don't have a problem with Research Document either, the R&D connotation is fitting. I like the implication that RPC is more academic and analytic than the Foundation and actively tries to research, design and implement new procedures and technologies to contain anomalies, based off anomalies, etc. It'd open up more creative and cross-testing opportunities.

All within a contemporary "10 minutes in the future" realism constraint, of course.

I'm def down for replacing RPC-[number] w/ something else. RCP is the slogan of the Authority like "secure, contain, protect" is the slogan of the Foundation. It just so happens that the acronym for their slogan can be an acronym for "secure containment procedure" like segfault314 points out

And while I do like DA, Dr Odoacer has a point that it kinda seems like "District Attorney." But I posit that it's only because we're unaccustomed to the proposed meaning of "Documented Anomaly." and having DA-[number] makes more sense for uncontained/unobtainable anomalies as well as locations and people/animals since a location/living thing can't really be considered an object.

Conversely, "Research File" (RF-[number]) could be used, be entirely unique, and be in-line w/ the "Research, Protection, Containment" slogan. I would've suggested "Research Document" but RD is too close to R&D (Research and development) imo

I very much like SuGrot's idea of DA, Documented Anomaly. Contained implies that it has been dealt with, which might not be the case for all anomalies. Object limits RPCs to objects and excludes living creatures, places, etc. Documented covers everything.
However, is makes you think of District Attorney as Dr Odoacer points out.
DA is also slang for that bad hairstyle, meaning "duck's arse".

What about RA for Reported Anomaly?
