However, there is one thing I don't understand: why did the Authority cover up the death of Togai? There was nothing really anomalous about what happened at the school; the bowling ball can be chalked up to a lucky coincidence, leaving a perfectly mundane story about a mentally unstable student heroically defeated by a brave would-be victim.

I'm also a bit surprised that Hanoka was so civil to the Authority strangers, given both the ethnocentrism of Japanese culture that would already prejudice her against these unfamiliar strangers, as well as the fact that kitsune like Mishio-san are something the Japanese are familiar with.
