Containment Protocols:

Notice From Research Team-009:

As of 20th May, 2014, the containment protocols entailed within the current Registered Phenomena document are considered outdated and awaiting revision. Authority personnel are advised to see the Incident-S031-357 as a reference point for what is to come.

RPC-009 instances are currently contained within Site-031's Biome Containment Dome-B. The reserve is to be closely monitored by the Biome Management Department Divison B (BMD-B), and sustenance is to be handled by the assigned Research Team-009. The total population of RPC-009 is to be monitored monthly. Whenever the total population within the natural reserve exceeds 15, BMD-B staff are to locate all RPC-009-1 instances and branches produced by RPC-009 and dispose of them via incinerator.

Research of the anomaly is to be done by Research Team-009 personnel at 01:30 PM and must be kept inside of Research Sector-02 until the daily research sections are done. As approved by Site-031's Director Gilda Jair, RPC-009 will be permitted to roam Site-031 biweekly. While the entity is docile, it must be supervised at all times by at least one member of site staff. It is allowed to walk around Site-031's common spaces, excluding the cafeteria, private rooms, parking lots, and restrooms. RPC-009 is permitted access to On-Site Staff Sectors while accompanied by Site Protection ASF members.

Description:

RPC-009 instances are an anomalous species of plant that resembles Myrmecophaga tridactyla.2 The biology of RPC-009 is arranged in such a way that it mimics the anatomy of organisms found in the kingdom Animalia. Despite its already larger than average body size of 2.38m compared to its non-anomalous counterpart,3 matured instances can achieve even larger sizes due to their plant biology. RPC-009 bodies are generally comprised of clusters of rootless stem structures that support each other.

Effectively, the stems of RPC-009 instances serve as both a skeletal and muscular structure. The entire is capable of locomotion through the hydraulic action of pumping sap or water at locations all across the body where a joint would be, causing its 'limbs' to bend. This property seems to be facilitated by small salt-crystal structures located at each of the 'joints.'4

While the outer layer of RPC-009 instances consists mainly of chloroplasts, and although the leaves throughout their bodies had enabled photosynthesis, the process alone is not enough to provide sufficient energy for the instances to maintain their activities. RPC-009’s primary way of gaining sustenance is through the consumption of litter, mainly plastic, but recently it was found to be capable of eating most types of litter. It is also capable of gaining energy through photosynthesis. Litter consumed by RPC-009 is led through a pseudo-digestive track and into a hollowed cavity that serves as a stomach. Objects are then broken down through the conversion of matter by thaumaturgic symbols located all across the stomach. Converted material always comes from edible products similar to fruits, which are then excreted out by RPC-009 instances. These fruits (designated RPC-009-1) share no common form, but they appear to be physically identical to their previous form.

The current known alterations that turn plastic litter into fruit, both instances produced by RPC-009, are:

  • The object's interior mass is converted into the pericarp5 of a fruit.
  • The object's exterior now features a layer of exocarp or mesocarp6 of fruit.

RPC-009-1 conversion beyond these 2 parameters has never been observed by personnel.

RPC-009 is capable of reproduction through two means. Reproduction is achieved either through seeds (designated RPC-009-2) that are sometimes located within RPC-009-1, created along with the fruit during initial thaumaturgic conversion, or branches fallen off of matured instances of RPC-009. If left alone, RPC-009 will bury the RPC-009-1 instances or larger branches within fertile soils. Both instances will initially grow as plants with no anomalous effects. When under semi-humid environments and provide sufficient sunlight, water, and any other substances that a plant would require for development. They will converge upon maturing, losing their roots and forming the shape of an anteater.7 RPC-009 instances are capable of reaching lifespans of up to at least 32 years of age.8

Area of Discovery

Discovery:

RPC-009 was initially found in one of the forested areas within Thailand and eastern Cambodia. Possible anomalous activities regarding "wooden creatures" were reported to the Authority across eastern parts of the Cardamom Mountains of the Southeast Asia region, but were not pursued by the responsible administrative branches for the regions. These reports eventually culminated in an incident on 07/11/2010, in which a swarm of 30~ instances of RPC-009 stormed a village located in the Provinces of Cambodia in search of litter.

Mobile Specialized Team-Foxtrot-4 "Prey" deployed to contain the instances were met by Mobile Formation detachments of PCAAO9 stationed there10. MST-Foxtrot-4 and PCAAO personnel were able to work together to contain RPC-009. MST-Foxtrot-4 was able to secure 12 instances of RPC-009 while the remaining 30~ instances were either terminated11 during initial efforts or were captured by PCAAO.

Due to the previous activities to the anomaly, the Agency of Interest PCAAO was contacted and questioned for possible connection to RPC-009. While PCAAO denied having any involvement in creating the RPC-009, the group showed interest in the anomaly and had requested help to analyze the instances of RPC-009. After discussions between the Authority and PCAAO staff, a research collaboration between the two organizations was then held at Site-031. The aforementioned AoI has already played an important role in the domestication and domiciliation of the entities and helping to lay the groundwork for the current article.

Authority ASIA Command is currently cross-referencing sources for more information on RPC-009's origin.

Experiment Log:

Below is a list of experiments conducted upon RPC-009.

Note for future tests:

These fruits produced recently appear to be way more aggressive and dangerous for some unknown reason. Even the back then soft lime taste of these fruits became extremely acidic. Therefore, stop wasting CSD's to test if something that might probably kill them, will.

Incident-S031-357:

On 17/05/2014 at 23:44, unexpected weather conditions led to the start of a wildfire at OL-Site-357. The resultant generator failure, which led to the shutdown of the perimeter’s electric fence, effectively causing the breach in containment procedures of RPC-███. Despite its believed passive nature, Mobile Specialized Team-Sierra-17 "The Wild Wrangler's" 357-assigned personnel dispatched to OL-Site-357 and re-establish said containment failure. Site-031 was later assaulted by a hostile group of armed individuals14 using both traditional and paranormal weaponry. The group was divided into two fronts, while being assisted by the reappearance of RPC-███, with the entity breaching through Sector-5 and advancing to Sector-4 of Site-031.

Several instances of RPC-009 were kept within Research Sector-2 before the testing incident. At 00:36, all RPC-009 instances' eyes, thaumaturgic symbols, and crystalline structures began to glow red.15 Surviving personnel reported that instances had become extremely hostile, resulting in the deaths of most members of Research Team-009. Staff maintaining Site-031's natural reserve had reported similar experiences with the rest of RPC-009's present.

The swarm of RPC-009 had resulted in the deaths of 2 MST-Sierra-15's 009-assigned personnel as well as the harming of 3 anomalous fauna inside. While all instances of RPC-009 started creating biological weapons with their anomalous effects by creating compounds of various chemicals such as acidic substances oozing out of the thrown instances of RPC-009-1, explosive substances oxidized upon breaking the outer layer of RPC-009-1. And on a single occasion sulfur mustard gas was released upon breaking the outer layer of RPC-009-1.

Mobile Specialized Team-November-7 "Hammer the Gamma" were called in to respond to the incident, arriving three hours after the current Protection Team was defeated by the abundance of enemies, who had fled to Sector-04. After reinforcements arrived, 90% of the RPC-009 instances were terminated, with their remains incinerated after post-mortem examinations.16

After Incident-S031-357, Site-031's Directors of Anomaly Containment re-evaluated RPC-009's classification, updating its object class level to Beta-Red. The re-established Research Team-009 dispatched all instances of RPC-009-1 still contained in the remnants of Site-031.17

After confirmation of similar hostile behavior observed in the RPC-009 instance within PCAAO confinement. Personnel found in other sites with instances of RPC-009 were alerted of this new development by Authority's ASIACOM. Some theories lead to the possibility of PCAAO using RPC-009 for weaponry. This topic will be brought up during the next UNAAC summit on "Global Anomalous Activities." It was then discovered that two of the current six seeds (four of which were destroyed by orders of the site director) were missing from containment. This discovery made PCAAO the primary suspect responsible for these actions, however; no answer was given. For precautions, a letter was sent to the current PCAAO representative Xiao Li.
