Qualia

1.a. A unit of thought.
1.b. Referring to an individual, subjective perception of reality.

2.a. Referring to a psychic’s imagination.
2.b. The image of thought imprinted by psychics onto perceived reality, the psychic’s paint.

Lexicon Auctoritas

Psychicus, that relating to the mind or soul.

Pyrokinesis, mediumship, hydrokinesis, prophecy or divination, telekinesis, cursing, all arts well-practiced by any thaumaturge worth their salt. One may then ask, what value to us is the psychic classification?

Throughout history, there are personalities that are so encapsulating, so charming, so dominating, or so pitiful, they order humanity’s collective attention. Born kings and queens, leaders, musicians, painters, great thinkers, enthralling criminals. These people, through their presence and life, can unite mankind into armies or fandoms. They steer conscious perception, and through this, the way reality manifests in our minds. It stands to reason how most psychics in recent memory became the celebrities of their local communities, and certainly beyond.

A psychic does not need to study thaumaturgy, nor read of ritual, for their influence is entirely innate. A psychic is the mind that makes a subjective inner world into a matter of objective reality. Their imagination breaks out of their body, and with it summons a fountain of qualia, which splatters and paints the universe as we perceive it.”

- Dr. Adomo Anthropos, introduction to the lecture: "Psychics: A Qualitative Understanding of the Person, not the Power."

The Nature of Psychics

Inquiring one hundred psychics about the mechanisms of their paranormal abilities will produce an equal amount of different answers, none of which stand up to scrutiny. In truth, few psychics understand the source of their talent. Therefore, replicating any psychic’s specific influence through heredation or training has proven futile; it is utterly unique to each individual. Some of these methods may outwardly appear similar to traditional occult techniques, but are set apart upon scientific observation.

The Authority has come to understand psychic abilities as ontostratic1 interruptions in the standard flow of conceptualization & creation. While an idea would normally diffusely manifest in the Infoplane, then flow through the Sea of Forms in its ideal, perfect state, and finally achieve physical identity through the process of its creation, psychics can manipulate, skip and/or reverse this interaction between mind and reality. Indeed, some psychics can even palpate this interplay within minds that aren't their own, thus operating as memetic agents.

Joseph B. Raine of the Parapsychological Association explains psychic abilities as divided into two branches, those of psychokinesis and extra-sensory perception (ESP).

  • Psychokinesis: Outwards Psychism (telekinesis, teleportation, levitation, biokinesis, automatic writing), performed by overlaying the Sea of forms onto the physical plane, superseding flawed acts of creation.
  • ESP: Inwards Psychism (mediumship, remote viewing, psychometry, dowsing, astral projection), performed by directly witnessing the Infoplane, in opposition to the physical.

After the founding of the Authority’s own Department of Parapsychology, this model was developed to include a subtype distinct from Raine’s original classification:

  • Empathics: Sidewards Psychism (telepathy, pathokinesis,2 mesmerism), performed by implanting memetics into foreign minds through their connection to the Ontostrata.

In general, all psychic abilities are performed by expression of the psychic's qualia onto perceived reality. This manifests as eccentric views on the mechanisms of reality, ultimately resulting in the eccentric forms of ontostratic relations listed above.

Additionally, the ability to control the flow of information has shown positive correlation with the impression the psychics leave on the fellowman. This has caused some researchers to hypothesize that the power stems from a shift in the conscious gestalt, where psychics obtain influence by recruiting individuals to their worldview. It is as such that many known psychics are famous.3 They have therefore proven a hindrance to the veil, and are to be treated according to the I, I, I and U model.

A common practice among prominent psychics is to create groups of laymen organized around their abilities.4 It is therefore obvious how up until the 20th century, psychic groups were elitist and exclusive in nature, where the higher ranks were accessible only to those born with the unknown prerequisites for psychic influence.

Psychism; the Universal Model

A paradigm shift overturned the parapsychological field when Dr. Wolfgang Metzger proposed that qualia, the metaphorical fuel of psychics, exists in all sapient beings, however latent. Psychics are therefore only separated from the normal man by the ability to express qualia, not by innate supremacy or talent.

The idea of 'latent qualia', while initially rejected by the parapsychological community, gained traction within various French-artistic groups in the aftermath of the Great War. Further development by both Metzger and these groups resulted in the so-far only reliable methods of reconstructing psychic influence: the VidiCap and Creative Expression.

To contemporary parapsychologists, there are three types of psychic actors:

1. The natural, born psychic: who lacks the barriers of mind that maintain qualia within the mind.
2. The artificial, created psychic: the normal man whose qualia has been forced out.
3. The tool-using, not psychic: who uses the VidiCap or creative expression to deliver qualia.

All three actors can practice qualia recruitment; the usage and metamorphosis of the fellow's qualia to amplify and enforce the self's worldview, albeit in various manifestations.

Some readers who have accessed this guide will notice a lack of empirical descriptions regarding psychic mechanisms. This is intentional; as our current understanding of such mechanisms is not fit for practical application or protocol.

The document therefore attempts to shift the reader's attention from the psychic power, to the psychic themself, stressing a qualitative approach. This is as the best way to limit a psychic is not a secret or specialized protocol, but simply isolating them from the social influences which amplify them.

It is for this reason a summarized history follows this introduction. Its purpose is to make the reader aware of the themes plaguing historical psychism, as well as how it tends to manifest in practice.
